The David Arthur story begins in the 1960s, when Donald Long realized the potential of Pritchard Hill in the east side of the Napa Valley. Over time, Donald acquired over 1000 acres of land on Pritchard Hill, today considered one of the greatest grape-growing areas in the country. In 1978 Donald founded David Arthur Vineyards with his son David, who now oversees the winery's operations. Focusing on classic California varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, the winery produces elegant, food friendly wines that are bold and full-bodied while managing to avoid the overblown, over extracted style that many Napa wineries favor.
David Long is an effusive personality who spends most of the year traveling the country by RV, promoting his wines, meeting his customers, and just taking a refreshing hands-on approach to turning wine-drinkers on to the wines of David Arthur. We were lucky enough to have him visit Marketview Liquor recently, and we had the opportunity to taste through several of his world-class wines. David quickly became one of our favorite people in the business, and his wines will be staples of Marketview for years to come!
