One of the most exciting parts of our job is watching a winery evolve and progress. Just a couple of years ago we were presented with the wines of Hecht & Bannier, a fairly new negocient winery based in the Languedoc region of France. The wines were pretty good, but nothing blew us away. Aside from their delicious rose’, we didn’t sell much.

Fast forward two years; we met with partner Gregory Hecht a few weeks back and tasted through all the new vintages of the H&B wines; the evolution was stunning, and we now look forward to doing business with these wines for a long time.

Founded in 2002 by partners Gregory Hecht & Francois Bannier, their aim “To have our wines become the reference for quality in the region with a unique range of appellation wines.”

A decade later, and they’ve established strong relationships and contracts with prime grape-growers all over the south of France. The most recent release of wines greatly impressed the Wine Advocate, and there are now some incredible reviews to go with these absolutely incredible wines.

While we are happy to offer thousands of national name brands, we are also very proud of the relationships we have built with the small, hands on wine companies, that in the end, provide us with some of the greatest and most interesting wines in the store. We search out the coolest (mostly NYC based) wine companies in the State, taste their wines, and then stock our shelves with dozens of small-production, family owned wineries that you're not likely to find in other stores of our size. Can’t be everything to everyone? We sure are working on it.

Another Impressive Project in the Finger Lakes - Boundary Breaks Vineyards

There have been some super exciting developments in the Finger Lakes over the past couple of years. We’ve been particularly encouraged by the releases from Heart & Hands and Forge Cellars, to name just a couple. Following their lead of single-varietal focus is the brand new Boundary Breaks.

Founded by an unnamed businessman with a serious passion for wine, about 12 acres of Riesling were planted in 2008 on prime Seneca Lake property. Boundary Breaks is focusing on Riesling, and Riesling only, and they’re following the more European model of “wine being made in the vineyard.” No tasting room, little marketing, just a selection of Riesling wines being made to reflect the best that the region is capable of. They’re spending most of their time on meticulous vineyard maintenance, and have hired some of the Finger Lakes top winemakers to turn their pristine fruit into some very focused, elegant, and delicious wine.

They’ve started with four Rieslings, and we just brought two of them into the store, the 2011 Dry and 2011 Semi-Dry. Our staff is very exciting to represent such an exciting new project, and we plan to follow and support Boundary Breaks as they move forward. The Finger Lakes is on a roll, Boundary Breaks is at the forefront of this progress, and Marketview Liquor is proud to support both!

With this amazing resource in our grasp, we are excited to introduce our “Cocktail of the Month” promotion, highlighting a cocktail recipe that includes spirits from our broad and varied collection. It may be a classic recipe, may be a bit more contemporary, or may even be a concoction of our own creation. Regardless, each and every month we will highlight a delightful cocktail based on high-quality spirits that you can find here at Marketview Liquor!

In the mid-1800’s, the city of San Francisco was plagued by pride and corruption. The seedy, red light district of the city was coined the Barbary Coast, and while the history is a bit murky, this drink came out of San Francisco at that time.

As far as creamy drinks go, this is really quite complex with the combination of the cream and the THREE types of alcohol adding up to a soothing, delicious treat, perfect for sipping in front of a fire in the wintertime!

Between our huge in-store, Pre-Thanksgiving Day tasting, as well as our numerous ads and newsletters leading up to this, we have provided many great suggestions for all of your holiday festivities. Being that the holidays are now firmly on everyone\'s mind, we thought we\'d highlight just a couple more suggestions.

We’ve got a cool little white wine as a last minute Thanksgiving Day suggestion, the Foral de Evora 2009 Branco from eastern Portugal. Made from the indigenous Assario varietal, this wine is almost too tasty for the price. As most inexpensive white wines are made to be drunk young & fresh, we were a bit skeptical before we tasted when we saw this was a 2009 vintage. Well, we had no need to worry, this wine is drinking wonderfully, lean, focused and refreshing with some mineral notes on the mid-palate that you would generally only find in a wine three times the price. A perfect food white if we\'ve ever tasted one. Check this one out and know that you\'ve put something completely different on your holiday table this year.

Pinot Noir may be the most versatile red wine when it comes to pairing with food. With its lighter body, gentle acid levels and bright fruit, it beautifully complements, without overpowering, a wide variety of dishes. While many Pinot Noirs can drift out of your everyday wine drinker’s price range, we are sometimes lucky enough to come across a really delicious Pinot Noir at a really great price.

The best under $10 Pinot Noir we’ve tasted in recent memory is the Kris 2010 Pinot Noir, from Italy’s northern Alto Adige region. This is simply a pretty, bright, easy to drink Pinot Noir, the perfect wine to sip while enjoying the plethora of dishes on your Thanksgiving Day table.

On Sunday, November 18th between 1:00pm and 4:00pm we will be holding a free pre-Thanksgiving day tasting with almost 100 wines available to taste. Thanksgiving is a wonderful celebration, and a great time to share new wines with friends and family.

With so many foods and flavors on the table, it can be challenging to find the most complimentary wine. For this reason, we have carefully chosen a selection of wines that will carry you through your feast. Start the gathering off with a light, spritzy German Riesling like the Darting Kabinett Riesling. Head to the table and pair a lovely Gamay, such as the Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais, or Pinot Noir, such as the A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir, with your Thanksgiving spread. When desserts finally come out, we'd suggest the Konzelmann VIdal Ice Wine to wind up the evening. These are only a handful of the wines being poured on Sunday, and with so many great wines to choose from, we encourage you to sample a variety and find your favorites.
