Since 1884, the wines of Don Miguel Gascon have been recognized for the rich, smooth flavors that come from Argentina's Mendoza wine region. First introduced in Argentina in 1890, Colosal is a bold and delicious Malbec based red blend that displays the ripe red and black fruit flavors of Bonarda and Syrah, and the deep, rich character of Cabernet Sauvignon. Colosal's soft and round tannins are complemented by layers of blackcherry, dark cherry, spices and licorice. Winery
Beautifully scented with ripe black fruits, marjoram, and rosemary, this offers an invigorating sense of attack and a refreshing palate of tart fresh black raspberry and cassis, underlain by grilled meats. There is a lovely, muscular leanness here, and this should perform admirably at table for several years. My notes refer to the first and smaller of two bottlings, but the unassembled components intended for the later bottling promised a result at least as impressive.
The Santa Lucia Highlans region of Monterey County is well known for producing world-class Pinot Noir. The wines from this region typically are fruit-focused and tend to drink beautifully even when quite young. This offering celebrates the tremendous sour cherry-like fruit of the variety. It is a Pinot Noir for every day enjoyment that will pair beautifully with just about any cuisine.
