This section is in part and in conjunction with the Wine 100 level courses. In this particular section (101) we delve into 10 traditionally produced wines from 10 classic regions. Regions include:\u00a0Nemea, Greece. Loire Valley, France. Burgundy, France. Bordeaux, France. Rhone, France. Mosel, Germany. Tuscany, Italy. Rioja, Spain. Sonoma County, California. Finger Lakes, New York.<\/strong>\u00a0Coursework will include a variety of readings about the wines and their given regions. Also opening and consuming of the wines so that the contents can be studied, as well as understood in order to provide the key concepts of these\u00a0traditional wine regions.<\/p>\n

Lesson Ten<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Louis M. Martini, Sonoma County\u00a0Cabernet Sauvignon, number ten, the last in our Wine 101 course. For this wine we head to\u00a0Sonoma County, California located in the good old U.S. of A. California has been producing wine since about 1683 and more specifically Sonoma County has been producing wine since around 1812. According to\u00a0www.sonomacounty.com<\/strong> there are more than 400 wineries in operation in the county today. The more than 400 wineries produce wine from 16 different appellations within Sonoma County. The almost 2,000 square miles of the county mean climate and terroir vary greatly throughout. This keeps things diverse, the wineries grow different varietals and varietals differ winery to winery.<\/address>\n
Our wine today comes from Louis M. Martini who started his winery in Napa Valley in 1933, with a passion for Cabernet Sauvignon. Today the winery is run by Louis’ grandson, Winemaker Michael Martini. Their philosophy is “The best grapes make the best wines. Today, Michael Martini, third-generation winemaker carries on this tradition at the historic winery in Napa Valley with his range of unforgettable Cabernet Sauvignon wines.” (www.louismartini.com)This Louis M. Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauivgnon is fresh, ripe flavors of black cherry, currant and spices. This would go great with beef, lamb, pasta marinara and rich cheese.<\/address>\n
