  • Alamos Red Blend

Saturated bright medium ruby. Medicinal blueberry and licorice aromas complicated by violet and chocolate nuances on the pure, scented nose. Plush and sweet on entry, then suave and pliant in the middle, with nicely integrated acidity framing the wine's sweet dark berry flavors. Lush tannins coat the tongue and teeth. Quite suave for the price range. 89 Points Stephen Tanzer

  • Alianca Douro Foral Red

Spice and red plum flavors dominate this fruity, forward effort. It has some tannins, but they seem lost in the wine's easy character. For drinking over the next two years. 85 Points Wine Enthusiast

  • Altano Douro

The 2010 Altano red is a blend of Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. With a touch of roasted herbs, this elegant, well priced bargain is fruity and bright. It is modestly concentrated, but it has a little structure. It is drinking quite well--and rather better than I thought it would. It is clean and tasty and quite charming with a slightly crisp edge. For the price, it is a nice pickup, likely to be early maturing. Drink now-2017. 86 Points Wine Advocate

  • Altos Del Cuco Red

Bright ruby. Spicy red fruits on the nose and palate. Light-bodied and easygoing, with good finishing clarity and decent length. Very good value here; I'd serve it on the cool side. (40% monastrell, 30% syrah and 30% tempranillo): 87 Points Stephen Tanzer

  • Alvarez De Toledo Mencia Roble Bierzo

The 2009 Alvarez de Toledo was bottled just a week before the wine was presented but seems to be showing no symptoms of distress. Balsamic, leather, and black fruits are the principal notes struck by this suave effort that over-delivers in a big way. Like its older sibling, it can be enjoyed now but will have more to say in 2-3 years. 91 Points Wine Advocate

  • Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon

This has rich flavors of black currants, licorice and sandalwood, and it finishes dry and spicy. This should be relatively easy to find thanks to its 50,000-case production. 86 Points Wine Enthusiast

  • Aveleda Vinho Branco

Almost cool in character, this crisp Douro comes from high-altitude vineyards. The grapes yield a fruity citrus- and pear-driven wine that's minerally, with just the right amount of acidity to push its freshness forward. 89 Points Wine Enthusiast
