Course Description:
This section is in part and in conjunction with the Wine 100 level courses. In this particular section (101) we delve into 10 traditionally produced wines from 10 classic regions. Regions include: Nemea, Greece. Loire Valley, France. Burgundy, France. Bordeaux, France. Rhone, France. Mosel, Germany. Tuscany, Italy. Rioja, Spain. Sonoma County, California. Finger Lakes, New York. Coursework will include a variety of readings about the wines and their given regions. Also opening and consuming of the wines so that the contents can be studied, as well as understood in order to provide the key concepts of these traditional wine regions.

Our last wine in Section 1 comes from the Bordeaux region of France and has ties to wine making that dates as far back as mid-1st century. Bordeaux is the largest wine region in France with over 120,000 hectares devoted to vineyards. This particular wine comes from Château Lamothe which is located in township of Haux “on top of a clay-limestone slope in the heart of the Bordeaux wine country, this estate has been devoted to winegrowing from the very beginning, and has belonged to the same family for 4 generations as of 1956.” (http://www.chateau-lamothe.com/index.php/en/chateau-lamothe-de-haux/the-chateau) The family renovated the ancient 16th century underground cellars into impressive cellars.
Chateau Lamothe de Haux Bordeaux Premiere Cuvee Red is a perfumed wine that shows bright floral characteristic. The lush berry fruits add juiciness to the wine’s complexity and structure. Density on the finish rounds it all out, making this an interesting wine from start to finish. During a recent In-Store Weekly Wine Tasting (Thurdays 4-7pm) this was the customers’ favorite wine of the group.
